| This is crazy important, its in my profile but still, you should be double forewarned then........ Pending Draft
Legislation Targeted for Spring 2005 The Draft will Start in June 2005
There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.
$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan - fiscal year 2004.
The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.
Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, http://www.hslda.org/legislation/na...s89/default.asp entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.
Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era.
College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.
Even those voters who currently support US actions abroad may still object to this move, knowing their own children or grandchildren will not have a say about whether to fight. Not that it should make a difference, but this plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft.
The public has a right to air their opinions about such an important decision.
Please send this on to all the friends, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and cousins that you know. Let your children know too -- it's their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change!
Please also contact your representatives to ask them why they aren't telling their constituents about these bills -- and contact newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they're not covering this important story.
..... YEAH. I know. And, if you're not one for trusting me, or if you just want to, here's the site that I got it from. Mhhmmmm... it's Congress's website...!!!

I went outside today to read my book, got to the pond, sat down and read a page, saw a mosquitoe and got a bite, ran back home, and had 15 YES, 15 MOSQUITOE BITES. I counted. And I was very upset, so I complained for about an hour, and then they went away (My mosquitoe bites come hugeeee and super itchy for like 2 hours, and f I leave them alone, they're gone by the next day :D), and anyway. So then I went rollerblading w/ my brother, and even though he could kick my butt if he wanted, it was still fun. =). I saw Danny (Carly's Danny, my neighbour lol) and he told me about how he used to be a pro-skater, and it was fun. Even though I was just trying to stand up without falling, lol. Then I came inside, and read my book w/ my dad (who's reading some kind of Nostic Bible or something...=\). But anyway, MY book is a SUPER-good book, lol (I can't say anything about his haha). But seriously, it's called The New Spring is a great book. It's fantasy, lol, but still really good. Ok, so back to reading! :D
| Wahh, I had the worst dream ever last night! Not a nightmare, because it wasn't scary or anything, but I was really sad, lol. So all this stuff happened, and it was really weird, but finally I started applying to colleges. When I got my letter from UofT, I was accepted, and happy and everything, but everybody knows (haha, not really but still) that I REALLY want to get into UBC, because that would just be so great. So I got back that application, and it said that I was really close, but, since I got a B in AP Lang Juniour year, I couldn't be accepted. And I was so sad, like sooo sad. I mean, I woke up almost crying. It really doenst matter THAT much to me in real life, but in dream-world I was so depressed. So I'm not sure that I want to take AP Lang next year. I might switch down, because I'm already in AP French, AP Modern World, and AP Environmental Science. And my electives are all working electives, so I'm not sure if I'll have enough time. If I do do it, I'm really going to need an A. Any advice? | | |
| Here about the dyslexic, depressed Rabbi? He walked around all day saying "Yo." Hehehe. Am I allowed to tell Rabbi jokes? I think so, since it's not very mean or anything, I just think its funny. Oh, and remind me that if I have not already told you, it is VERY important that I tell you the Bobby and Betty Hill joke. Seriously, its so funny I love it, and I wouldn't mind at all telling you. lol
Harumph, so I officially did not use the internet for a weekend and a day because I was studying for the APNSL exam... but I still failed!! Rrrgh, at least its over. Anybody want to have a party next weekend... not this one, but the one after? I'm serious, lol even if you're not in APNSL, I really want a party. Hehe. :D
And I just love this song... so I'm going to post the lyrics. :D:D Day after day I'm more confused And I look for the light through the pourin' rain You know thats a game that I'd hate to loose And I'm feelin' the strain Ain't it a shame? Oh, gimme the beat, boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Oh, gimme the beat, boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Beginnin to think that I'm waistin' time I don't understand the things I do The world outside looks so unkind And i'm countin' on you To carry me through Oh Gimme the beat, boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Gimme the beat, boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away And when my mind is free And no melody can move me When I'm feelin blue A guitar's comin' through to sooth me Thanks for the joy that you've given me I want you to know I believe in your song In rythem,in rhyme, and harmony You've helped me along Makin' me strong Oh Gimme the beat, boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Ohhhhhh Gimme the beat, boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Ohhh woah woah! Gimme the beat, boys and free my soul(free my soul) I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Gimme the beat, boys and free my soul(free my soul) I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away Na na na wontcha Wontcha take me, whoa whoa, take me
I also love the rock-island song, but since it has absolutely nothing to do with my life at all, I just like the song tune, I'm not gonna post the lyrics here because you'll think I'm crazy. lol, not that you already don't. :P. But its a good song!!
P.S. I'm serious about the party thing!!! ;)
P.S.S. Cicadas are supposed to come this weekend.. party? NO!!!! But maybe a hide-out or something of the sort... :P.
